I'm Lauren, married to Josh and together we've been blessed with three kids, Elizabeth, Jack and Peter. We love stories and reading has always been a fun part of our family time.
In their first hours after birth, Josh read them the entirety of Green Eggs and Ham while having his first skin to skin time. It wasn't long until they had me reading Pout Pout Fish a dozen times per day because of the laughter and silliness of it. I loved the exciting vocabulary in this children's book, and I realized the power in a story that's told again and again to young listeners.
I wanted my children to understand some of life's biggest life lessons from a Christian world view. The culture (and public library) will offer families all sorts of morals that don't support the gospel-centered truths we are teaching in our home. Sometimes overtly in opposition, but more often surreptitiously in what was alluded to or omitted.
As I began to grow our family's library I would buy the latest Christian picture book, but I was often disappointed. Sometimes the books were too preachy. Sometimes they were painful for adults to read and I dreaded it being pulled from the shelf. Sometimes my kids thought it was boring and they didn't want to hear it again.
